Chief of Staff,
I don't know if the complaint below has a nexus to any City responsibility.
Just ensuring City Manager's office has received if potentially actionable.
No report back to me needed.
Thank you.
Ed Book City Commissioner

I hope this finds the commision well. There is a serious situation that involves a friend of mine named Jane Ellis, who owns property in the Duck Pond area. The issue is a neighbor who has allowed her property to degrade to the point that it has become infested with rats, which are now invading Ms. Ellis' home.
Ms. Ellis has requested help from multiple city departments including code enforcement and they each in turn tell her there is nothing they can do. I am mystified by this response to a serious public health issue. Am I to understand that in a city that levies obscenely high taxes upon its citizens, there is nothing a single department in this city can do to to protect those citizens from an infestation of rats?
This situation has been ongoing for over a year and now Ms. Ellis has these vermin get into her vehicle. If there is nothing the city will do on its own, I am absolutely willing to take this issue to the public and the media if that will help Ms. Ellis.
I think the City of Gainesville can resolve what is clearly a public health issue, it just has to want to help. Surely there is someone who can provide the motivation necessary to get this done.
I appreciate your time and attention.
