Dear Mr. Singleton,
I am writing to request that you halt moving forward with the Tom Petty Park project. The public, particularly the people living in neighborhoods adjacent to the park who use it often, have had no opportunity to see nor give feedback on the final plans. This is not the way to run a city.
I am most concerned about saving the trees. If halting the project for public input is not possible I am asking you to tweak the plans so that the healthy trees slated for destruction will be saved.
I live in the Duckpond and enjoy the park several times a week. The trees constitute my primary pleasure. There are few places downtown to enjoy nature that are properly SHADED. Trees provide oxygen, water retention, carbon storage, habitat and beauty. They are cheaper and far superior to the inefficient, unsustainable and expensive tarps I see increasingly installed that do nothing for the natural ecosystem.
Moreover, as temperatures continue to climb trees are arguably more valuable than oil. Please tweak the infrastructure plans for Tom Petty Park to save the healthy trees that we love, cherish and benefit from on a daily basis.
Thank you,
Lesley Gamble
Duckpond resident
