Dance Alive National Ballet Receives Grant from the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund

Funding to support Outreach Educational Programming

Dance Alive National Ballet has received a $2,000 grant from the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund to support its Outreach Educational Programming.

Kim Tuttle, Artistic Director of Dance Alive National Ballet, and Emily Dixon, Outreach Director, said the funds would be used to expand services provided by DanceAbout and Let’s Dance programs.   DanceAbout provides classes and performance opportunities for students grades K-middle school while Let’s Dance provides classes for physically and/or developmentally challenged children.

“I am particularly pleased that this funding allows us to provide the instruction necessary for special needs students,” Dixon said. “And we have been able to double our DanceAbout classes.” (Dixon is also Director of Programming, Arts4AllFlorida.)  “Additional  performances, other than those scheduled with NUTCRACKER, include a special performance at Legacy Park in Alachua in March.”

DON'T MISSTHE BALLET PROCESS.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 24TH.

Dance Alive Resident Choreographer Tales Ribeiro invites you to join him and the dancers on the journey as he creates a new work – WHAT REMAINS: A STORY OF ALZHEIMER’S.

WHAT REMAINS

The above clip is just a taste of what you will see in the workshop as Tales develops this piece. Rosemary Deiorio described it as "an intensely emotional experience" as Tales worked with her - Tales being the person with Alzheimer's and Rose sharing the experience.

Attendees at the first workshop were so moved that they reached out to The Village of Gainesville and Diva Foundation for sponsorship of the project and performance which was quickly provided. The subject is one that hits home for many of us and the first workshop initiated much conversation and discussion.

The workshop session, January 24, will be held at Pofahl Studios from 1:00 to 2:00 followed by conversation and refreshments. Mr. Ribeiro invites you to participate in the process.

The completed work will be premiered February 8th at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.

Who creates the gorgeous ads? Dave Johnston of Johnston Photography captures the images and then Houston Wells edits for the ads.
