City of Hope Performance: Music, Art, Poetry & Culture, April 18 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm

Music, art and poetry were central to the 1960s movements. Join us for an evening celebrating the poetry and music from the 1968 Poor People’s Campaign, featuring local artists. City of Hope: Resurrection City and the 1968 Poor People’s Campaign is an exhibit at A. Quinn Jones Museum & Cultural Center organized by the Smithsonian Institution Travelling Exhibitions Service, the National Museum of African American History and Culture and The City of Gainesville.

Free Fridays Concert Series, April 19 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm

The region’s longest-running and largest free outdoor concert series returns on April 5, and features local and regional musical talent at the Bo Diddley Plaza. Random Kats (Folk, Rock, Country) will perform.

District 3 Virtual Town Hall, April 24 from 6:00 – 7:00 pm

Gainesville District 3 City Commissioner Casey Willits is hosting a virtual town hall about the city’s Regional Transit System (RTS), Vision Zero initiative and Streets Stations and Strong Foundations (SSSF) projects. He will be joined by staff to answer questions from area neighbors. The event is free, but registration is required. Registrants will receive a dedicated Zoom link for the virtual town hall prior to the event. When: Wednesday, April 24 from 6-7 p.m. Where: On Zoom. Registration is required and is available online. The virtual town hall will be broadcast on Cox Cable Channel 12, livestreamed on the city’s website and Facebook page, and archived online. It will also stream on GNV TV through Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices.
