Meet Your Community Builders

The Communications Office highlights city employees (Community Builders) in an award-winning public facing series called “Meet Your Community Builders.” This series is used to highlight the “unsung heroes” at the city (not managers or department heads) who have a fascinating story about their career journey, or have an interesting job or hobbies that we can showcase.

If you want to be showcased, or have someone in your department that you would like to showcase, please reach out to Raul Merlo at MerloRE@cityofgainesville.org.

Workday Tips and Tricks: Managing Your Personal and Work Information in Workday

Personal Information

The personal information you can update in Workday includes your home and mailing address (note that certain changes to your personal information require verification).

Home/Mailing Address

There are many reasons to ensure the home address you have listed in Workday is accurate. A missing or incorrect address could put you at risk of not receiving your work correspondences on time, being offered the wrong benefits options or even being taxed incorrectly.

Every employee is responsible for ensuring that their home address and “mailing” designation in Workday are correct.

To confirm or update this information:

  • Login to Workday
  • In Workday, select "menu" in the upper left, and then select "personal information"
  • Click on the "contact information" button.
  • Under home contact information, ensure the addresses listed are accurate, and that the desired address has the “mailing” designation in the usage column.

If edits are needed:

  1. Select the Edit button in the upper left and select "change my home contact information"
  2. To update your primary home address – select the pencil ? icon next to the address you want to update and make the necessary changes.
  3. To change your mailing address – select the pencil ? icon next to the address you want to use as your mailing address. In the usage field, select "mailing".
  4. To save the changes you made, select the check mark ? icon.
  5. When you're done making changes, press the "submit" button at the bottom of the screen.

If you notice your Work Address is incorrect in Workday - please contact your manager to initiate the updates on your behalf using the “change job” process.

Refer to Finding Your Support Roles for help locating your support contacts within your department and organization.

For all Workday inquiries, please submit a ticket.

OpenGov Coming Soon!

Over the coming months the City of Gainesville will shift bidding and quotes to OpenGov, replacing both DemandStar and GovSpend. Please encourage vendors and suppliers to register and get to know the platform.

The City of Gainesville is partnering with OpenGov to implement a new online procurement portal that will be a user-friendly, one-stop-shop for vendors to:

  • View bids issued by the City of Gainesville
  • Receive notifications of new bids
  • Receive notifications of addenda to posted bids
  • Respond to bids
  • Receive notifications of awarded bids
  • Work with the city to finalize contracts

The Importance of Buying Recycled Copy Paper

Contrary to popular belief, the notion that recycled paper leads to more frequent printer and copier jams is unfounded. In reality, such malfunctions often stem from machinery requiring maintenance rather than the type of paper used. Recycled paper matches the quality of its non-recycled counterparts in every aspect, and opting for recycled content paper contributes significantly to environmental preservation by conserving natural resources, reducing energy consumption, and minimizing pollution.

Recycled content papers are readily accessible at competitive prices. Aim to purchase recycled paper with the highest level of Post-Consumer Waste (PCW) feasible within your budget. While 100% PCW recycled paper is ideal, options with 50% or 30% recycled content still surpass paper lacking any recycled materials. Be sure to seek out brands explicitly labeled as "recycled" to avoid confusion with products using vague terms like "recyclable" or "environmentally friendly."

Join the movement towards sustainability today by making the switch to recycled paper and advocating for eco-conscious printing habits. Don’t forget to copy on both sides!
